Monday speeches in militia districts outline the election for adopting the county unit school system. A countywide mass meeting Tuesday at City Hall invites all citizens to participate, with speakers from Princeton Sandy Creek Winterville Puryeurs Georgia Factory Kenny's and other communities.
Boston Beaneaters upset New York, winning 4 to 3 as Joe Wood outpitched Jeff Tesreau in a tense opening game. The Giants led briefly in the third, but Boston struck back with two big innings and held on to claim the early series lead in Boston.
Bob Lilly, a young white man, faces trial in Clarke superior court for a highway robbery near the Geaboard Air Line Railway station alleged to have occurred nearly three years earlier in early 1910. Two other young men implicated with consent of the court, multiple cases on the docket.
The Athens chamber of commerce will hold its regular meeting next Friday evening at 8 o'clock in city hall. It is the first meeting since the banquet and the successful campaign that doubled the membership. Members are urged to arrange their business to attend as vital matters will be considered.
The World Series game between New York and Boston will be shown at the Colonial Theatre this afternoon at two o clock with a live illustrated diamond lineup and base runners. An expert caller will narrate the action, making it feel like the actual game despite distance. Admission is one quarter.
Wiley Childers aged sixty three died at his Lumpkin street home after a weeks long illness. Survived by five children Annie Hammond Ila May Fred and Mrs Charles Krumrine with two sons absent. Funeral at First Methodist Church with Sunday school class pallbearers. Childers a lifelong business man in Elberton timing and Athens construction, former volunteer firefighter and Athens Guards member.
Advertising list at Jossey’s Ate offers fresh rutabaga turnips green cabbage and beans by the pound or quart. Prices include turnips 2c per pound cabbage 2c per pound beans 1c per quart and potatoes 3c per peck with specials on fries fat hens and canned tomatoes.
Next Sunday Bishop J H McCoy of Mississippi a leading member of the college of bishops of the Southern Methodist church will visit Athens. He will preach in the morning at the First Methodist church and in the evening at 730 at Young Yorris Memorial church. He may address the student body during his stay.
Augusta GA October 8 1912 Judge Grubbs US district court issued an order restraining named defendants and all others from interfering with interstate mail and freight transit on Georgia railroad lines. The order will be served to those named and made public. violation may lead to contempt of court.
Due to Rev. James C. Morris illness a hay fever attack and jaundice he cannot lead the evening service at the First Methodist church. Stewards held a regular monthly meeting noting the conference year end and aiming for a strong church showing in all departments.

Workers chairman W F Dorsey announces a large Clarke county campaign committee for the county unit system measure. The group includes clergy, doctors, and citizens such as Rev Joy Beatty Dr J D McPhail Rev S R England and J E Talmadge Sr. The committee meets tonight at eight at the city hall to organize and urge voter participation for bettering the county school system.
The Edwin R Weeks Company presents a varied program of parodies violin solos sketches and operettas in the auditor ium of the State Normal School tonight as the first of five lyceum events this fall and winter Season tickets cost two dollars single admission is fifty cents.
Augusta Oct 8. Superintendent W S Brand states that the Georgia Railroad does not control the Atlanta Joint Terminals which are operated jointly by Louisville and Nashville, Atlanta and West Point and Georgia Railroad. A board of control governs terminals and Mr John D Patterson serves as terminal superintendent.
John B. Gamble declares in Clarke County Georgia that as Democratic nominee for solicitor general of the western circuit he incurred no campaign expenses in the general election of October 2 1912 or since the August 21 1912 primary. The sworn affidavit was made October 8 1912 before J Crawford, Clarke County clerk.
A Column reports Center Georgia held a municipal election on October 5 with a 25 cent tax on property facing strong opposition. Judge Brand excused jurors from a case of the state versus Bob Lilly, while remaining jurors must attend at 10 o clock. Names of local officials and candidates include Mayor J W Johnson, J W Damron, U Fouche, J Pace, D O Dalla, and others.
