The New York Americans fell to the Giants in wet conditions as rain and slow plays hindered the Yankees. New York trails in the series needing four straight wins to avoid elimination as McGraw’s Giants move toward the championship.
Five hundred delegates from Georgia federated clubs arrive in Athens for the 26th annual convention. The University of Georgia chapel hosts opening exercises with remarks by H G Reynolds and Rose V S Kerry. Local hosts include Mrs Charles M Snelling and Mrs James B Hays.
Augusta police report a Ford ran with no driver Saturday as RB Hall parked on Chen Elis Street left engine running. The car moved through crowded traffic for more than a block, dodging vehicles, crossing a busy street, and finally halted after two crashes including a gas line incident and a garage door contact.
Northeast Georgia readies for the Clarke County Fair opening October 23 with a large advertising push led by Frank O. Miller. School Day on Monday targets children. Kids Day follows. Old Time Darky event and Fiddlers' Convention are planned with Fannin County star Fiddlin John Carson presiding. Farmers’ day features calcium arsenate lectures. Prosperity Day Friday garners special railroad excursions. Athens and Clarke County anticipate thousands of visitors from over twenty five counties.

In Cookstown New Jersey Charles M Shinn of Philadelphia shot and wounded Mrs. Joseph Matthews and her father in law after she refused to elope with him He brought the unconscious woman to a hospital in Trenton and then killed himself with three bullets to the head.
Cory Langford known as Baldly was jailed on a charge of assault with intent to murder County Officer Alex Saye after a whiskey car chase ended in a crash. Cowden, who fled, remained at large as police seized whiskey and bottles from the Cool Place on Jackson Street. Officer Saye suffered non serious injuries and Langford and Cowden had prior whiskey arrests.

R E Neghbord of Elyria Ohio to preach next Sunday and every night next week. Subsequent Sundays announce visits by Sentel Brown and Bennett with dates in October and November.
Chicago overwhelms Georgia 13 to 0 in a soggy opening game as Stagg’s Maroons use a powerful ground attack led by Johnny Thomas and Zorn. Randall of Georgia suffers an injury, Pyott adds a drop kick, and Chicago earns 20 first downs to Georgia’s one.
The Athens area plans an air route from Kingston to New Orleans with George C. Thomas appointed to an Air Board. Mayor Van H Burgin accepts the role to push a national appropriation and establish the route within a year. Board members include C Douglas Flanigen Joel A J Frank O from Chamber of Commerce James W Mo from Clarke County and RM Anderson of NAA.
Senators Harris McKinley and Spencer discussed a European tour to the Inter-Parliamentary peace union. They opposed further Allied debts to the United States and predicted Germany would resolve its troubles without new loans. Harris favored U.S. league membership. McKinley and Spencer opposed it.
The American State Bank announces the opening of a Broad Street branch in its building on October 16. Preparations include building improvements and an up-to-date fund. Backing by large financial interests signals strong support and expected success for the new bank office.
Pat Col Swartskopf head of the state police who directed troopers on the Hall Mills murder mystery is sent by Gov Edwards to New Brunswick with orders to pursue the case. The Philadelphia Evening Ledger quotes the governor stating the move on Saturday.
British consulate warns all British families to evacuate if Turkey enters the city, with circulars for British and Italian nationals to report to designated protected sites during civilian evacuation. Americans issued similar orders earlier. Turkish advances have violated the neutral zone around Constantinople, marking a significant shift in Kemalist conduct.
The treasury department announced that foreign and American vessels sailing for the United States after October 14 will face prohibition on bringing intoxicating liquors into U S waters. The Harding administration delayed enforcement for sea craft until proper notice and regulation are in place. Masters of ships were ordered to surrender intoxicants aboard ships of the Shipping Board.
Augusta Tiernan filed for divorce from John Tiernan a Notre Dame law professor citing cruel and inhumane treatment. She charged Harry Poulin as the father of her ten month old son. Poulin was found not guilty in City Court.
The forecast notes generally fair weather with cooler temperatures in the Carolinas and Georgia. Coastal areas face Sunday to Monday changes with shifting winds and occasional rain, while central regions expect fresher north winds and moderate temperatures.
Mrs. Lollie Bell Wylie heads Forestry for the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs and promotes a statewide education campaign. She planted Author's Grove in Piedmont Park and chairs Publicity in the Georgia Forestry Association. Mrs. Max Land, D A R Regent, endorses forestry work and emphasizes conservation as essential to protecting timber and fuel supplies. Mrs. A L Supplee, War and Resources chair, champions forest conservation. Mrs. Ira Farmer of Th? club demonstrates tree saving by the state college, with replanted acres and a demo by the College Forester.
