Cattle Industry in Georgia on Verge of Big Leap Forward
Atlanta Oct 7 Special A regional meeting of southeastern agricultural agents led to a plan to import over 100000 head of Texas cattle into Georgia. The effort, aided by State College of Agriculture agents led by J Phi Campbell of Athens, aims to determine county needs and place cattle quickly. Rail freight rates have been cut by 50 percent to help farmers obtain cattle at reduced prices amid Texas drought and cattle surplus. The survey indicates Georgia can feed 100000 more cattle than currently in the state, with forage crops this year exceeding local demand.
