Athens showed 121 votes with Slaton governor tally at 119 while socialist and other tickets appeared. Bleckley County led a push for creating a new 147th county with broad local campaigning and a courthouse rally urging approval.
The trial of defendants in the Athens Trust and Banking Company failure is postponed to October 21 1912 by Judge Brand due to conflicts among counsels. State against J W Griffin and against R H McCrary will be heard in Clarke Superior Court during the third week of October with all parties ready to proceed then.
Athens suffers from a strike by conductors flagmen and baggagemen on the Georgia road. Five main cities remain reachable from Atlanta as trains idle and freight and mail deliveries face delays. Milk supply in Athens declines as Greene county milk cannot be hauled. locals report a heavy loss from halted freight and passenger movements. Wife of the late Rev M K Lewis, she was active in the Kentucky Methodist conference. Her funeral and burial were held yesterday in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
