The city elected four aldermen, one from each ward, in a tightly contested race. R. T. Wright was re-elected in the First Ward, H. T. Culp narrowly trailed. Dr. H. R. Palmer won in the Second Ward. O. R. Dobbs carried the Third Ward. and B. F. Woods secured the Fourth Ward seat with broad support.
Six millions appropriated by congress for navy yard expansion will fund Norfolk Charleston US C Boston Philadelphia Bremerton and Portsmouth yards. Charleston and Portsmouth will handle gunboats destroyers submarines and other small craft while Norfolk and Philadelphia get slips for capital ships. Boston and Bremerton will build and repair vessels up to 12000 tons. New York Mare Island yards already build capital ships. The six million is a early portion of total future navy yard spending.

On the Georgia Southern line an engine derailment in Athens passenger yards injured colored fireman Wilt Wells seriously and engineer Guerry Hall lightly. Mesars chairman R L Bramblett and J M Hodgson led the county board in regular business after a postponed session. Hodgson reported to the state highway commission in Atlanta, outlining the estimated value of convict labor and male labor for federal road projects and noting the government will not fund free labor costs.
