Davis Case Postponed in Fraud Scheme In Atlanta Certificates
Charles E. Davis charged with using the mails for fraud has a continuance granted to the May term of the 1909 federal court in Rome Georgia. Defense failed to dismiss on demurrer and plea of abatement as Joel Branham ill and unable to proceed. Government says Davis helped print forged Atlanta Clearing House certificates totaling $200000 and arranged for the Philadelphia firm to print them. Davis claims he acted as attorney for friends and that Columbus Georgia merchants planned to use the certificates to advertise their wares.
