Brumby Of Athens Dies After Brief Illness
Captain John Wallace Brumby, longtime Athens resident since the 1860s, died at his Hancock Avenue home after a short illness. He served as a Civil War captain, built a prominent local business life, and contributed to social and civic affairs. Survived by his widow Miss Hardeman Brumby, two daughters Miss Mary Harris Brumby and Miss Annie Wallace Brumby, and son Hardeman Brumby in the Navy at Norfolk.
