Charles Stern pioneer citizen and business leader of Athens died last night at his residence after a two year illness. Survived by wife four daughters one son a sister and a brother he founded Chas Stern firm over fifty years ago and led civic religious and business life. Funeral from the synagogue Sunday at 2 30 pm with further announcements to follow.
Last night at his Hoyt Street home, J. E. Pitman a longtime Athens leader died after a general breakdown due to old age. He is survived by son J. E. Pitman Jr a Texas druggist who has been at the bedside. The funeral will be at 1 PM from the home with burial in Madison County the family cemetery. Rev B L Hill will preside the pallbearers include J H Stone B F Wood W A Mallory W M Pittman J W Wood and J A Saye.
