The store offers seasonable dress goods and silks this week at market-value prices. 27-inch China Silk in black and colored at 49 cents per yard. 27-inch Chiffon Taffeta Silk at 98 cents per yard. 19-inch Dress Silks in a range of colors at 49 cents. 36-inch Mohairs and Fancies also at 49 cents.
Georgia hung on to beat Dahlonega 18 to in a hard fought afternoon game. Lowndes and Batty starred for Georgia while Dahlonega backfield play drew praise as the Georgians rallied after an early two touchdown deficit to secure victory at the end.
J Ira Elder assistant postmaster under Pink Morton and McKinley era arrested on charges of sending vulgar obscene letters by mail. Prosector Laura Damons Negro bond posted six hundred dollars, Ike Derricotte also posted bond. Letters signed Allen McKingskey as evidence. Elder denies authorship. Postoffice Inspector Bannerman aided the investigation.
The Athens Woman's Club lists seventy-one members with five sections. Philanthropic work in East Athens led to a city funded free kindergarten now paid at thirty-two dollars monthly plus supplies. The club contributed equipment worth over one hundred dollars and continues supporting lunches and seasonal gifts for needy children. The Art Club began in 1905 under Miss Lucy May Stanton, while the Shakespeare Class was reorganized, meeting at Lucy Cobb with bimonthly sessions and refreshments.
Prof Joseph S Stewart state agent of the University of Georgia returns from eight new counties tracing plans to establish centralized high schools at county seats and to raise local taxes under the McMichael bill. He discusses accreditation of high schools with the School of Technology and potential transfer of graduates on the same basis as University. Also notes for sale of hardware business in Athens due to ill health of J H Fleming.
Retail ad lists large stock for fall needs with 50 dozen ladies ribbed vests and pants at 35 cents each and assorted undergarments for ladies misses and boys priced 25 to 75 cents per garment. Several items include unions suits, outing gowns, and knit skirts at varied prices.
Advertises a range of blankets and cotton comforts with widths and weights described as good value. Wool blankets offered in large sizes at prices from 3.50 to 10.00 per pair, plus cotton comforts priced 1.00 to 2.00.
Registration for the municipal primary rose to 341 by yesterday afternoon with about 850 to 900 names still to be added. Wards reported totals of 121 in the First Ward, 68 in the Second, 56 in the Third, and 56 in the Fourth Ward as the clerk plans a busy registration week to avoid a last minute rush.
