Three Negroes were shot and three white men wounded in a fresh race riot in East St Louis on May 29. Police and Illinois militia dispersed crowds as three companies arrived. saloons were ordered closed by Mayor Holtman.
A man identified as Lamar Heard, a Black resident, allegedly fired at his wife and infant sister inside their home on Chasetreet near Reese. He fled on foot, discarding the pistol in Dr. Hunnicutt's back lot as officers investigated. Heard had separated from his wife Monday night and has no police court docket.
Washington May 29 fur ther changes in the house war bill agreed upon were the elimination of five per cent taxes on gas electric light and telephone service and all insurance and the imposition of increased taxes of sixty per cent on tobacco products instead of the 100 per cent house increase and to levy an excise tax of half a cent on sugar and three cents on cocoa.

Paris May 29 the chamber of deputies passed a bill requiring dress making and military trades employers to grant Saturday half holiday to all workers, legalising the agreement struck by employers and workers that ended the recent strike.
