Nine thousand volunteers from nine great railway centers including Atlanta will form an American railway expeditionary force to France pending Army and Navy roles. The unit will cover railway construction and operation with broad representation from railroad workers and experts.
World War I report notes ongoing fighting by Greek troops with Allied forces against Bulgarians in Craonne area, with Canadian and French troops having captured the sector last week. French operations northwest of Rheims and air battles on the western front are described, including German aircraft losses and a hand to hand clash near Arras and Cambrai.
Georgia and Clemson, each holding one win apiece this season, meet on Sanford Field in a decisive tie breaking match. Marshal Joffre Rene Viviani visited Lincoln’s Tomb in Springfield and Viviani forecast US aid to end the war.
U S post office issues strict order to publishers prohibiting premium offers clubbing or commissions to inflate second class subscriptions. The Third Assistant Postmaster General Dockery directs scrutiny of nominal rates and required disclosures, urging publishers to revise offers and cooperate to curb fraudulent subscription lists.

Christianburg Virginia May 7 The Vawter murder trial of Professor Charles Vawter progressed with rapid expert testimony plans suggesting the case could reach the jury before Wednesday night Stockton Heth Jr. was the victim and the principal party in the charge.
Secretary D. P. Haselton of the Chamber of Commerce has returned from the Southern Commercial Secretaries conference in Knoxville. A new member, he contributed to discussions, exchanged ideas with other secretaries, and spoke on the Athens body’s work and its do in the office.

Petitions on paving sidewalks and repairs were considered with mixed outcomes as the city moves toward a regular meeting.
