A Georgia opinion piece argues against female doctors, detailing imagined scenarios of sexual tension and discomfort in medical exams. Readers received a collage of political theories from a German editor, a Grant Mexico forecast, labor recruitment appeals, Georgia land disputes, a Gainesville assault incident, Judas burned at a mission, and Clarke sheriff sales notices. The clippings mix international ideologies, U.S. presidential musings, labor logistics, court actions, and property levies in 1881 Georgia.
The first Confederate banner made in Georgia by Mrs Thomas Hardeman was given to the Floyd Rifles and carried to Norfolk in 1861 before being lost. The Macon Volunteers banner was presented by Miss Marianne Cobb and destroyed in Richmond at war’s end. The first Regiment colors were made by Miss Howard of Columbus and she inspired Memorial Day observances at her grave on the Chattahoochee banks.
