Paris Texas Fire Destroys 27 Homes and 125 Businesses
A March 21 Paris Texas fire near the compression plant razed 27 residence blocks and damaged or destroyed 125 of 140 business buildings by midnight. The semi volunteer Paris fire department fought the blaze as it spread toward the north residence area with millions in losses likely. The cause was not determined.

Fire Rages Through Crawfordville Sawmill Lumber Yard
A large blaze at Chamberlain saw mill three miles from Crawfordville Georgia yesterday afternoon destroyed nearly a million feet of new lumber owned by White & Hamilton Lumber Co. Three houses for mill operators burned, and three houses were lost. The fire, aided by a brisk west wind, partially wiped out insured property and a gap was cut to save some lumber.

Washington March 21. Amendments to the Hay army bill were adopted but final passage was not reached. Hay expressed confidence the bill would advance to a vote tomorrow as Chamberlain planned to discuss the Senate army bill without waiting for final action. Amendments include allowing the president to order out the regular army reserve without Congress action, a 60,000 strength reserve, military instructors for schools, discharging an efficient regular into the reserve in one year, and government standard munition tools to be used at private plants in war.
