Re location of roads showcased by University of Georgia expert
Prof John C Koch of the University of Georgia civil engineering department led a Madison county survey with county commissioners to relocate thirteen miles of road from the National Highway toward Pocataligo to the Clarke county line. The new route reduces grades, avoids streams, and opens farm land to Athens and area markets. Private subscriptions exceed 2100 dollars with expected county funds and local merchants contributing, total cost estimated at 10000 dollars for grading and surfacing. The project aims to improve trade, bring out agricultural wealth, and shorten travel to Athens and beyond.
