Avlanta Ga March 18 Exactly at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning Sheriff Nelms sprang the trap on Andrew Johnson alias Black Sport and in fourteen minutes the slayer of Policeman Manier was pronounced dead of strangulation His only words on the gallows were I know I am saved God has forgiven my sins I am ready to go Administration of nitroglycerine and opium about an hour before he was taken to the gallows gave the negro courage and he stood without assistance Doctors Eskridge and Mitchell pronounced him dead of strangulation in fourteen minutes after the drop fell There was complete paralysis and non convulsions Several other physicians were present Complete Physical Collapse Johnsons last night was marked by complete nervous and physical collapse County Physician Richardson called to see him Tuesday evening and again Wednesday morning About three o'clock the negro fell into a fitful sleep which continued only a few minutes He began his tossing and groaning again
