Washington reports confirm the second army draft begins March 29 with eight hundred thousand to be called gradually this year. Crowder assures no sweeping withdrawals at once and no interference with harvests. Military authorities outline a five day mobilization of 96,000 men starting March 29.
City buzz surrounds the arrival of Neil O’Brien and his minstrel troupe for two performances Monday including a matinee. Tickets selling fast from out of town orders. plan ahead to avoid sold out seating and ensure matinee or night tickets. First come, first served with limits to curb ticket speculation.

He remains a beloved figure in this community though living in Denver Colorado. Friends and former congregation members recall his years of service and happy visits with fondness.

Major J. D. Watson, son of Mr. J. W. Watson of Athens, has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and is stationed with the coast artillery at Fort Wordsworth, New York. He has served several years, earning honors through steady work and demonstrated merit, and many friends in Athens are proud.
Albany March 12 The New York Assembly defeated ratification of the federal prohibition amendment and adopted a substitute that provides for a public referendum on the issue. The action places the question before voters rather than approving federal change.

The county draft board turned over ninety three delinquent men to Chief H W Beusse and the police for failure to answer the draft questionnaire. Many avoided, fled, or offered excuses, while some remain unlocated. Officers will search and arrest these deserters and send them to military camps.
Lloyd L Holcomb a junior at the University of Georgia died yesterday afternoon at Crawford W Long infirmary after a two to three week illness. He was well regarded by peers and faculty, an exceptional student and worker who valued open labor and active engagement. His body will be transported to Bremen with university honors for funeral and interment. His parents Mr and Mrs G J Holcomb and siblings were with him at his death and he leaves three years of study behind. The infirmary noted this was the first death among students on campus in four years and the first since its establishment. A cadet guard will escort the body to the train. He was described as a quiet, industrious, honorable, and beloved young man.
