A Statham man was charged in a homicide case but acquitted by the justice of the peace. The case arose after a dispute between the brother in law and the elder man on the eve of his sixty eighth birthday celebration.
In a packed city hall hearing Judge Joe Mat Hanie exonerated Geo Brewer in the murder of J I Treadwell. The 47 year old Brewer and 68 year old Treadwell clashed over a syrup debt and a shotgun incident led to a fatal struggle. Witnesses described Brewer restraining Treadwell with a knife later, as disputes over rent and payment escalated.
Washington March 6 The Benton incident dominates talks at a cabinet meeting as the United States weighs its Mexican policy. Carranza faces pressure to explain or repair relations with the United States while Senate activity signals forthcoming disclosures on Mexican affairs and treatment of American citizens.
J. C. Flanagan editor of the Gwinnett Journal is slated for trial Monday in Gwinnett Superior Court on a criminal libel charge. Judge Brand and Solicitor Gamble will hear the case, tied to earlier Journal coverage of local court-house politics and the so called court house ring. Indicted last September, the case marks a rare criminal libel prosecution in the region.
In El Paso on March 6 the Tezzaras ransom case under General Villa remains unresolved as Luis Tezzaras’ life is said to be forfeited if five thousand pesos are not paid by Sunday. The prisoner’s father cannot raise the money and Felize Martinez reportedly asks Secretary Bryan to intervene.
Washington reports Hon. W. S. West was sworn in today to succeed the late Sen. A. O. Bacon of Georgia. Sen. Hoke Smith escorted West to the bar while Vice President Marshall administered the oath. Sen. Works of California spoke as West entered, remarking on an apparent Democratic caucus.
A passenger named Johnson was hurled from a moving car near the Christian church on Prince avenue to Pulaski street. He suffered severe cuts and bruises and claimed the fight related to his illness. Witnesses said the occupants appeared intoxicated. A warrant for murder was sworn, but the magistrate found the evidence unclear and Brewer was freed. The trial date was set for Friday. Fresh potato chips were advertised by Arnold and Abney.

Judge Brand refused bail for Alva Camp of Walton County indicted for the killing of Emory Long outside Monroe courthouse last month. A special Walton court term opens the fourth Monday in May for Camp’s trial. Camp admits killing Long claiming Long had threatened his life for testifying about a prior shooting.

The feud stems from a previous killing of Grindell’s dog and a shotgun exchange at Grindell’s home. The courtroom buzz draws crowds as Athens and Commerce lawyers arrive.
Mr. W. B. Ingram narrowly escaped death when attacked by negro tenant Will Johnson with a five pound axe. The weapon buried into Ingram’s arm and shoulder, bones exposed at the joint, as he confronted the assailant after disputes over lumber errors. Johnson fled but was captured by officers.
Washington March 6 The House committee on interstate commerce favorably reports a repeal bill to strike out the toll exemption clause of the Panama Canal act. Senate interoceanic canals committee plans to meet next week to review the president's appeal for reversal. Representative Knowland leads opposition and may file a minority report. rules to hasten passage expected by Thursday next week.
Dispatches from Rio Janeiro report the capital is quiet and there is no ground for alarm as disturbances prompted martial law. Ambassador Dagama says the government remains in full control and the siege could be lifted at any time. Tender string beans and fresh produce advertised nearby.
The Army of Unemployed led by General Kelley travels from California to Washington, aided by county rail fare subsidies. Contra Costa spends over seven hundred dollars on fares to Benicia. The Library Alumni of the University held a meeting last night at the residence of President Col. M. G. Michael to organize a special purpose fund raising effort.
Alumni of the University of Georgia form a five member committee led by M G Michael to raise funds for an Alumni Library Fund. Investments will be in bonds and interest funds book purchases under the university librarian with chancellor approval.
