Paris March 1. Foreign Minister Micron released documents showing Bethmann Hollweg’s last Paris message before the war and France’s pledge to remain neutral. Germany would demand control of the forts Toul and Verdun during wartime with Russia as a guarantee of French neutrality.
With the American Army in France, March 1 American troops repulsed a strong German attack north of the Tull salient amid heavy casualties. The German assault failed. American losses included officers and a West Point graduate. A snowstorm and gas were reported. one Georgia private was wounded. Advances in Russia involve Berlin demands and Bolshevik resistance. Rostov on the Don reportedly captured. Russian stores burned as troops retreat. ten Americans reported captured near Chavinnon. Japan’s potential intervention discussed to protect Allied interests in the Far East.
In city court yesterday the case Dodson v. R F Wood, over a levy and sale of property tied to a homestead schedule, ended in two mistrials. Jurors were excused and no court session today. Several other warrants were enacted yesterday.

Washington reports that on April 6 the Third Liberty Loan opens marking the war’s first anniversary. Secretary McAdoo says plans, including loan amount and terms, await legislation and details. Indications point to over 3.6 billion dollars, with publicity under way and a nationwide patriotism campaign to energize towns and cities. The nation has already absorbed about six billion in Liberty Bonds from the first two issues.
Mrs Ora Hart Avery leads a series of Food Administration demonstrations at Athens High School to educate patrons on conservation. Demonstrations start March 4 at 3 30 pm and run six weeks with groceries donated by Mr J F Tibbetts to support the program in city schools.
Investigation into Private Albert Westwood of Kansas who died of meningitis at Camp Doniphan Oklahoma led to a court martial for Major Philip Connelly and First Lieutenant Walter Kirkpatrick. Connelly oversaw the hospital described as depraved while Westwood was a patient. Kirkpatrick faced charges for sending Westwood to the hospital without announcing suspected meningitis. Public notice of Doniphan hospital conditions followed a letter from Senator Chamberlain to the Senate military committee.
