During the same period 114 steamers of 550,351 tons and 3 sailing vessels of 1,350 tons were commenced while 83 steamers of 397,186 tons were launched. Allied and neutral countries accounted for 2,189 vessels of 6,921,989 tons, bringing total construction to a global scale.
