Library construction moves forward on university campus

Miter W. A. Brooks of the Oconee Enterprise visited Athens yesterday. He has bought the Hamilton Journal and plans further newspaper acquisitions in the state with general supervision over several papers. Brooks says many Oconee county residents will attend the Northeast Georgia fair in Athens October 1 to 10 and exhibit locally.

Mayor Rhodes presided over a morning matinee misadventure that swelled the city till. Mamie Phillips, a dancer, paid fifteen dollars after a fight with Isabellas Johnson and Mattie Neal. Heavy Fine for Negro Resists Arrest in Broad Street Incident

Anderson Eberhart, a negro man, resisted arrest Saturday on Broad Street after noon. Officer Pelton seized a knife as Eberhart cursed and fought, incurring a fifty dollar fine and costs by Mayor Rhodes for disorderly conduct and resisting officers. The mayor said the penalty serves as a lesson for others who resist police.
