Athens prepares for a University Thalians production titled Mrs Temple's Telegram a farsical comedy to lift spirits at commencement. Notable actors Nicolson Reed Lynch Jacobson appear in well crafted roles as their talents support the show's charm.
The senior class from the University of Georgia Pharmacy School led by Dr. R C Wilson travels to Savannah for a state pharmacists convention. They will perform a Friday night play at nine, with proceeds via Thalian prices and Palmers tickets on sale Wednesday.
Athens council passed an ordinance to inspect decorated public halls for fire safety and require a certificate from the fire chief before use or lease. Petitions for a fire alarm box at Milledge and Lumpkin and for lighting at Foundry and Dougherty were referred to respective committees. The street committee approved paving funds for Lyndon Avenue and parts of the Boulevard and Wynburn Place with payments from manufacturers and city. A new street in White City was discussed and referred. Ten days’ vacation granted to police and water works staff. Assessment ordinances approved for new concrete sidewalks on the Boulevard. Docket includes Thursday evening appeals with multiple cases to be heard.
Citizens are told that children will not be admitted to Athens public schools unless the parent's name appears on the city tax book. School officials will check tax payer status before issuing admission cards to ensure only taxpayers gain school privileges, aiming to curb tax dodging and secure funds for education.
Clarke County Court House Bond Committee invites designs for a courthouse and jail with three top prizes of cash and a 3 percent fee for the winner. Entries must be by invitation, sealed, and delivered by June 26 1912 with cost estimates and prior buildings listed. Judging by a three member panel. final plans to be produced and county owned.
Nashville edged Atlanta 4 to 3 after ten innings as big Tennessean stars drove a late home run to seal the win. Atlanta’s Russell struggled, walking six and giving up four hits before being replaced by Litton. Detroit and Washington also posted strong showings in the day’s action.
Passengers report both motor men Messia Jackson and Brewer jumped to avoid the crash after a Milledge Lumpkin car burned out. The Lumpkin car waited at Cleeverhust turnout for the Milledge car which failed to appear, prompting the uptown bound train to rush to the turnout. Slick tracks and late braking led to a strong collision at the curve, with conductors also leaping to safety.
