Four Black suspects nabbed by engineer on freight train
In Reaunoke Virginia on June 9 engineer J Edgar Webb stopped a Norfolk and Western freight train after discovering four colored men, Chreene Kroes John Woolen Charles Herring and Thomas Kennan, wanted for a deadly Sunday night attack on Peter Detinen. Webb, a former Roanoke detective, held them at Rocky Mount then brought them to Roanoke where they were jailed. Woolen confessed firing the shot that killed Denson.

Young boys die and save others in Georgia train incident
In Rome Georgia June 4 a freight train struck a ten year old boy and a twenty year old man as they traveled toward Rome. The incident near Aragon followed a prior trestle blaze and wreck history in the same cut. Two white youths near Thomasville Alabama saved a passenger train by flagging it with caps, stopping within twenty feet of a burning trestle and preventing possible deaths.
