State Prohibition Bill Heads To Senate Passage Today

The Georgia senate temperance committee unanimously recommended passage of the state prohibition bill after amendments. The measure would bar possession of liquors by businesses and limit medicinal alcohol to prescriptions, with grain alcohol restricted to arts and sciences and wood alcohol allowed. University committee to visit Athens for inspection

A House committee on the University plans a two day visit to Athens to inspect the University and State Normal School. Representative McMahon has pushed the measure, with broad support from members including Ward, Anderson, Price, Davison, Barrow, Huff, Johnson, Brown, Walker, Edwards, Taylor, Boyd, Barkesdale, Bell, Ward, Tuggle and others.

Atlanta July 12 Special chairman Candler of the Appropriations committee announced the panel will hear from representatives of all educational institutions on Thursday after July 1st and from elemosynary institutions including the state sanitarium academy for the blind school for the deaf and the soldier home on July 23.

Miss Bessie Richards Dies After Brief Illness

Miss Bessie Richards, longtime secretary at the State Normal College, died yesterday morning at six at her sister Mrs. Ke Browns home on Parker Street after a brief illness. She was a Baptist and beloved by students and friends. Class of 1907 presents gift to Miss Frierson at UGA

The University of Georgia class of 1907 honors Miss Frierson, the assistant librarian, for her help with their library needs. Representing graduates, Mr. G. H. Gillon presented a handsome silver butter dish yesterday. Capt. and Mrs. J. W. Barnett and Miss Hunter Barnett have returned from Cumberland.

Anti-Lobbying Bill Passed by Georgia House

The Georgia House approved a sweeping anti lobbying bill by a 154 to 0 vote, barring legislators from private talk with members on pending bills. The measure includes registration and expense reporting requirements for legislative counsel and a floor prohibition with penalties. The session also saw unanimous passage of a Fulton County superior court judge appointment and a $350,000 Atlanta water works bond issue.

Mrs Branham's Remains Interred at Ocoee Cemetery

The remains of Mrs. Branham were interred at Ocoee cemetery in a simple service held yesterday morning near ten o'clock. Rev. E L Ly Hill conducted the grave-side rites after the body arrived from Millersville the night before. Also noted, Miss Marion Carlton and Miss Virginia Bryan were named in school-teacher lists as principals of East and West Athens kindergartens respectively.
