Associated Press reports Cincinnati endures a destructive storm that killed twenty two people and left ten missing. Property damage exceeds a million dollars as telephones fail, streetcar service stops, two steamboats sink, and hundreds of homes are destroyed or damaged.
Last night the summer school lecture was at State Normal School auditorium instead of the University of Georgia chapel. Tonight Miss Christine Levin and Miss Stella Shaw perform, followed by an oratorio concert. a convocation for the Georgia legislature and a formal campus reception are planned for tomorrow through the week.
The summer school students will, on Saturday of next week, take an excursion to Helen in White County. The trip will use the Gainesville Midland and the Gainesville and Northwestern Railroads and be limited to 300 travelers. The site offers scenic beauty with water falls, mountains, Indian mounds, and the Nacoochee Valley nearby, making the trip a notably interesting one for a recently opened country.

Atlantic City July 8 Dan Morgan Smith, judge advocate of Illinois, addressed the Anti-Saloon League on The Price of a Drink. He warned that drink is paid on the installment plan with the dime paid by the drinker and society paying damnation, urging aggressive enforcement and local prosecutions to curb violators. He urged employers to support prohibition and noted kicking a crooked police chief can do more than many arrests.
Dr William P Nicolson Jr, known in Athens, has arrived safely at Bordeaux France and assumed duties as an interne in the American hospital corps per a cable to his father Dr W P Nicolson of Atlanta.
New York reports pitcher Jim La Fitte, released by the Brooklyn Federals, has signed with the Buffalo Federals. The announcement came last night in Buffalo.
London reports the Italian navy suffered a serious loss when the Austrian submarine torpedoed the cruiser Amalfi in the Adriatic. Most of the crew were saved. Last night from 6 10 to 5 20 no officers were on duty but then Mayor Dorsey swore in Chief Lloyd K K Brooks and all patrol plain clothes and special officers in a single ceremony at City Hall.
Yesterday evening the entire police force was sworn in with notable features. It marked the first July oath in the city’s history and, after twenty years, every officer was re elected with no changes to the force. It was also the first instance of a force being sworn in twice in the same year.
