The legislature accepts a noon telegraph invitation to visit Athens. Plans include a campus tour of the State Normal School and State College of Agriculture, a barbecue, and campus inspections. Athens hosts expect extended visits by lawmakers to view facilities and discuss state support for education.
Miss Mary Lyndon of Athens is set to become the first woman at the University of Georgia to earn a Master of Arts degree and join the summer school faculty. The piece notes this follows Miss Julia Frisch of Augusta, who received the first MA awarded to a woman in 1899, before women were admitted to the summer session, and argues for equal university access for women.

Emory Watson, son of Mr. Pierce Watson, and Will Riley clashed after teasing smaller boys near the old waterworks minnow hole. Riley fled. a warrant for assault with intent to murder was sworn out. Watson survived with deep neck wounds but faces possible complications.
Brick paving work begins on South Lumpkin Street from the Y M C A corner to Hancock, then to Pulaski and joining Prince Avenue. Old macadam is dug up, brick piles line the street, machinery is in place, promising rapid progress. Dearing Street also receives the new Dolarway surface praised for appearance and wear.
Bogart Georgia letter dated June 30 1913 from a 12 year old boy claiming to have an acre of cotton expected to yield a bale and a half. He asks the editor if this is a plausible result and notes he is not part of the boys club.
Miss Lillian Daniel testified she worked late at Athens Trust and Banking Company and found it closed January 11 1912. She said Griffin directed minutes for loans including a 35000 loan to Crawford Oil Mill forged signatures were alleged. The state produced witnesses, noting overdrafts and failed payments, as the trial continued with more witnesses to come.
The Georgia National Bank declares a regular semi annual dividend of percent payable on demand. P Brooks serves as cashier. A fragment mentions Charlie Arin of Bogart Georgia in Oconee County, unclear context.
Royston Georgia on June 30 reports Mrs Alex Johnson wife of a prominent attorney shot herself through the head about two this morning. She is about twenty nine and unconscious with little chance of survival. She left several small children and was previously regarded as well and happy. The act remains unexplained and the town is shocked by the tragedy.
Plans for a four team summer league in Athens were set at a YMCA meeting. The YMCA will supervise Herty Field with a 15 o clock league. The railroad men have formed one team and an open fourth team may be organized by local players, office workers, or merchants. Four former YMCA helpers retire from active duties, and Murphy Pound and Howell Peacock are named to manage the YMCA squads. Members are urged to meet at 6:15 this afternoon at the YMCA.
American State Bank declares three percent on de peaches priced 35 cents per basket. Arnold & Abney firm note peaches will be soft by tomorrow while stocks last.
The University of Georgia summer school opened with the largest attendance in eight years as teachers and high school delegates from across Georgia arrived for a packed program at Peabody Hall. Dr J S Stewart presides with lectures by H A Hollister of Illinois and Dean Southwick of Boston School of Expression spanning daily sessions on reading, curricula, community ties, and vocational schooling with extensive discussions led by district educators.
Sunday afternoon during a heavy storm two women in Athens were struck by lightning. Mrs. John Childers and Mrs. Coot Lewis, near Oconee Street Church, were knocked down and briefly unconscious. Lewis suffered a burned arm spot about the size of a dollar. The storm caused damaged trees, damaged weather, and telegraph lines across sections of the city, with phone wires notably harmed between Comer and Berkeley.
All Odd Fellows in good standing are invited to Glenn Lodge hall this evening at 8 30 to witness installation of new officers for the ensuing term H J Davis noble grand W V Parnell vice grand and H L Garebold recording secretary receive office while financial secretary and treasurer are elected for the year and other officers are appointed after the noble grand is inducted into office
