Shot Missed Att torney Charles Emory Smith Safe
Early hours yesterday Charles Emory Smith a young attorney with offices in the Hodgson Shackelford building was ambushed and shot at but escaped unharmed. Police have no reliable suspect as to identity. He left Y M C A after exercising and on returning home heard a noise in a ravine. A white man with a pistol appeared and fired as Smith passed, but the shot missed. Smith sought help at nearby houses and telephoned police. no trace of the assailant was found.

Col Felton recovered his lost sterling silver fountain pen after a local bank lapse. A reader mailed the pen in a fountain pen box with a fragment of the Athens Banner, addressed to R. J. Felton, without city or state, and the Athens post office delivered it promptly with the insurance receipt found inside.

Traveling man Mr. Bishop injured in Carolina railroad wreck
