The Rainbow division and the Thirtysecond division, both part of the Third Army of Occupation, will leave Germany for home about April 15. Replacements will be regular army troops.
Deputy W J Russell, an Internal Revenue Collector, is placed in charge of the Athens zone for the new income tax collection due March 15. The Athens zone covers Clarke, Fibert, Madison, Hart, Franken, Oronee, and Oglethorpe counties. Russell will open headquarters in Athens and coordinate with deputies and assistants to urge rapid compliance and filing by March 15 to avoid penalties. Blank forms for individuals under 5000 and corporate forms will be mailed from Atlanta. Russell aims to visit as many counties as possible before deadlines and urges citizens to visit headquarters if a deputy cannot reach their community.
Mofendanta was fined 250 dollars and costs and sentenced to 12 months with the road sentence suspended on payment of the fine and good behavior. Lucian Britton received 200 dollars and costs and 12 months with the same suspension. Tom Taylor was fined 55 dollars and costs and 8 months with suspension on payment. A J Burroughs was acquitted on liquor charges. W F Colvard was acquitted on labor contract charges. Bonds forfeited: Tom Carthers Bedrick Billups Cleveland Whitfeld. One civil case, Barnett v Mauldin, dismissed. Docket today includes many civil and criminal cases.

In the Northern District of Florida Judge William B. Sheppard presided. Layman Latham pled guilty to revenue violations and received five months in jail and a 100 fine. Willie Walton pled guilty and was fined 12.50. John Carter got 20 days and 100 fine. Wil Fowler fined 100. Seven hands were forfeited. Ben Woodall trial completed, jury deliberating at 5 p m. Woodall charged with retailing.

Washington February 24 Senator Lewis of Illinois defended the proposed league of nations in a nearly two hour address before the Senate disputing critics who warned it would abrogate the Monroe doctrine abandon Washington and Jefferson principles and force disarmament while risking U S exclusion from world decisions amid an overflow audience applauding his stance.
Washington February 24 The House bill appropriating one billion dollars to maintain the government guaranteed price of 2.26 for the 1919 wheat crop was ordered favorably reported today by the Senate Agriculture Committee.
The price of the Oakland Sensible Six automobiles sold in this territory by the Brooks Motor Co. is $1,210.00 delivered in Athens, instead of $1,200 as published in error in this paper.
Charles Morris a well known clothier has come back from New York and eastern clothing manufacturers after a buying and inspection tour. He reports large purchases for the fall trade and promises an attractive showing when the season opens. Morris is known in the clothing trade for offering reliable guarantees on his goods. He will soon display his new spring stock, one of the largest yet presented to the trade of this section.
Washington reports an agreement ending the New York building trades strike. All workers and sympathetic strikers were ordered back to work tonight under a pact among the building trades association, the union, and labor and war department aides.
Mr Max Jacobs, long in the cigar and tobacco trade, returns from New York where he held a seventeen year post with his firm. He will reside in the city again and continue traveling for the same company, making this city his headquarters.
Washington February 24 The senate agriculture committee ordered reported the Kendrick bill regulating refrigerator cars by the Interstate Commerce Commission licensing of packers facilities and divorcing stock yards from control by packing companies.
Tobias Herring aged 74 of Whitehall Ga. died Sunday morning at his home at 6 o clock. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Oconee Methodist church conducted by Rev. Hutchinson. He is survived by a brother George Herring of Athens and a sister Mrs Mary Whitworth of Smithonia.
Representative Lundeen of Minnesota introduced a bill proposing a nationwide referendum to decide U S government action on the proposed league of nations. The measure aims to let voters choose the country’s stance rather than Congress alone.
Washington Feb 24 Amendments in the sundry civil bill would remove all embargoes by the war trade board on cotton cottonseed and peanut oil exports. The house added the changes before sending the measure to the senate.

Officials of the department of justice said pending further investigation they could not say if criminal charges will be brought against fourteen Spaniards members of the Industrial Workers of the World detained on suspicions of a plot to overthrow the US government by assassinating public officials. All fourteen are aliens subject to possible deportation if proven undesirable.

Washington February 24 The Senate passed a bill by Senator Spencer Missouri authorizing the secretary of war to acquire land in France for burial of Americans who died in the war and sent the measure to the House for action.
Parts Feb 24 report says the peace conference subcommittee on moral responsibility for the war has completed its work. The report will likely be approved by the supreme council and laid before them. It reportedly addresses moral responsibility only, not technical breaches of international law by individuals.

Music and addresses by Chancellor Barrow and Dr Pound accompany the event. Ladies from the Woman's Club will be present.
