Farmers gathered in the Clarke County courthouse with wide county and neighboring county turnout. Captain James F. Payne 73 died Sunday at 198 Cedar street. Funeral Tuesday at 11 a.m. from Fort Lamar Methodist Church Madison County conducted by Rev. Walter Anthony and Rev. B J Cartledge. Interment in Fort Lamar churchyard. Payne served as university of Georgia properties agent and was a Confederate veteran with Cobb Delaney UCV camp ties. Survived by widow three sons three daughters seven grandchildren. Funeral party leaves Athens Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Memphis Tenn The South within ten years will be the great cattle producing center of the nation says Dr B R Lloyd secretary treasurer of the Southern Cattlemen's association. Cattle herds on southern farms are increasing rapidly and worn out lands are being reused for cattle. Prices are expected to rise in spring as cattle buyers show less demand and southern farmers are urged to expand cattle raising with help from agricultural extension forces during the tenth annual convention of the association.
The University of Georgia holds its annual Anniversary Exercises Tuesday at 8 pm in the historic chapel. Demosthenian speaker Freeman C. McClure of Lafayette will discuss Taxation in Georgia, introduced by Edwin Thomas of Jesup. Phi Kappa speaker John Walter Sheppard of Daisy will speak on A Return to the Fundamental, introduced by Lewis Hill of Newnan. Col Henry H. West will MC, Red and Black Quartet will perform, and a large public audience is invited.
Funeral services for Mrs. BE Threlkeld age 62 died Sunday night at 190 Crew Street will be held Tuesday at 3 PM in the Awtry Lowndes chapel. Interment Wem View cemetery. Survived by husband A Threlkeld and many relatives including Mrs W B Jackson Athens GA and Mr A M Bearden Dallas TX.
Havana reports Cuba will curb its sugar crop output while agreeing to limit exports to the United States this year as part of a government policy outline communicated Monday.

Thirty four weekly papers in the Ninth district are expected to be represented.
Col C M Snelling of the City Bond Commission will address the Athens Community Council on the proposed school bond issue. The session invites council members and Parent Teacher associations to express views as the bond election approaches.
ATLANTA Ga Hearing of the petition of unions officialy of , the striking employes of the Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic railroad seeking the return of documents alleged to have been taken illegally from union headquarters last week by government officers was postponed Monday until Wednesday. The papers were cited under a subpoena for use before the federal grand jury investigating alleged violations of federal laws in connection with the A. B. A. strike in effect since March 6 1921. By direction of the court the papers were placed in care of the clerk until a decision is rendered.

Reported in Woodford County a robbery at the Oscar Pepper Distillery, with 400 cases of whisky taken early Monday. Bandits held a post office guard and fled, prompting an active investigation by local authorities.
Athens City Court calendar shows fewer than six civil cases ready for trial this week. Judge J D Brawell convened the term Monday and will hear them Friday at 9 30. Two juries were drawn and sworn. Jury No 1 and Jury No 2 are listed with members and bailiffs. Appearance docket set for Tuesday at 10. Criminal docket to open Monday with limited cases, expected to last less than a week.
Under Sisters of the World War Heroes, 158 sisters and 277 brothers linked by service are honored on Frank Lee Walker’s birthday at the State Normal School campus. Gold Star sisters are listed among students who sent brothers abroad. Memorial exercises feature songs and remarks by Dr. Jere M. Pound and other faculty.
Chicago reports Bishop Thomas F Gallor president of the National Council of the Roepal church voiced opposition to the Eighteenth Amendment at a Sunday address He called it a mistake and urged morality through voluntary restraint rather than constitutional sumptuary laws noting he personally observes the Volstead Act but opposes harsher constitutional enforcement and framed the issue as one of intelligent upstanding citizens rather than the underworld.
Washington dispatch reports January active cotton spindles at 7,929,358 hours, with 87 hours per day and 45,751,715 employees operated for the month. December had 34,154,410 and November 26,074,401. State totals list spinning activity across Port Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia in varying amounts.

Wheat prices surged on Monday with delivery in May at about 1.46 a bushel amid meager 1921 crop supplies. Drought in Kansas and potential curtailment of 1922 supplies supported the rise, while Argentine exports to Germany and heightened trading added to the upturn. A recent 64 cent jump in prices also sparked strong market activity.
