J Scott Dead A Civil War Captain Remembered in Athens

Obituary notes Capt T J Scott born 1843 in Madison county died February 19 at 9 30. A farmer and hardware president and Madison county legislator, he moved to Athens in 1890 while retaining plantations. Survived by widow Montie and eight children, two brothers and two sisters. He was praised for charity devotion to family and public duty.

Negro Man Found Under Woman's Bed by Police

A colored man, Charlie Greggory, was dragged from under a bed in a colored woman's home by police after entering through a window. He claimed no clear reason for being there and did not know how he ended up in the house as the woman was away.

Athens contractor lands dormitory job at Milledgeville

James W. Watson, a well known Athens contractor, has gone to Milledgeville to begin work on the new 25000 dollar dormitory for the Georgia Normal and Industrial School, funded by the last legislature. Baldwin applies Arnold and Abney referenced in local notes.

Holliday Case Battles Athens Mayor and Council over Damages

Yesterday in Athens city court Judge Henry West heard Dr A C Holliday s suit against the mayor and council seeking 20000 for injuries from a fall when his car struck a rope across Hancock avenue during street work. The hearing continued with plaintiff s testimony. city witnesses have yet to testify. Funeral services for Mr T J Scott will be held at the Presbyterian church today at noon with a 11 15 car departure and pallbearers comprised of five sons a son in law and two nephews.

Opening Yesterday Proves Great Success at Majestic

The Majestic vaudeville and picture house opened yesterday afternoon despite inclement weather. The 3:45 show featured clever vaudeville numbers and fine dancing. A large audience voiced pleasure throughout, and the new theater impressed with its beauty and fresh appointments.

Busy mayor court session and fines tally

Yesterday morning Mayor Rowe attended the city court at the county courthouse while Mayor Pro Tem B F Woods led the mayor's court. About twenty cases were heard with thirteen guilty pleas mostly for drunk or drunk and disorderly conduct. Fines totaled 120 dollars: four at fifteen, three at ten, and six at five.

Dr McCormack to address Athens on public welfare at UGA Chapel

Dr J N McCormack of Kentucky is scheduled to speak at 8 p.m. next Saturday February 25 at the University of Georgia Chapel in Athens.
