A Athens Chamber of Commerce committee meets at ten this morning to finalize subscriptions for a $20,000 capital stock to build a railroad from Athens to Jefferson. With $17,250 already pledged, officials urge remaining businessmen to commit $2,750 today to avoid delay and signal acceptance to Mr. George J. Baldwin for immediate construction.
The funeral of Mrs L C Praither was held Sunday afternoon in the city, conducted by Rev. George E Stone, with many relatives and friends in attendance. Interment followed at Oconee Cemetery. A packing error obscures the rest of the text.

Henry Cheney, a Black man, was shot in the leg by another Black man outside city limits near Fowler's distillery Sunday. Cheney had been ordered to pay a fine in mayor's court. the shooter, who lived near Athens, paid Cheney's fine to have him work it off. Cheney says the assailant demanded money, Cheney tossed a dime, and the pistol was drawn. No arrest was made. county authorities to handle the case.
W. J. Peeples, a well known groceryman, presents rare bargains in his ad. The notice promises best brands and grades at store prices aimed to save shoppers money.
Captain Saye and Officer Evans captured Dick Greeson after noticing his new shoes while two pairs were missing from a freight room. They trailed him to his home, detained him, and he confessed to the theft, directing officers to the missing footwear. A warrant was sworn and he was jailed.
In the past days several deaths among the negro population have occurred, many due to pneumonia from two weeks of severe cold. Among the deceased was Hugh Cook, a well known but mentally limited negro boy.
