Tomorrow marks Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent a forty day observance by Roman Catholics and Episcopalians with fasting and abstinence from social affairs. Local Episcopal services will be held daily at 5 pm during Lent with instruction as the season tightens its hold on the city’s social life.
Mr Robert Toombs DuBose of this city learned by telegram that his brother Judge Dudley DuBose died in Seattle Wash after illness and overwork. The elder DuBose a prominent western lawyer served in Georgia legislature and Montana district court judge before leading major northern trading firms. He is survived by wife and one daughter Mrs William R C Cocke and two sisters and a brother.

The death of Mr. W. A. Strickland, about sixty five, occurred at St Marys Hospital from congestion of the brain. He lived near the Cord mill and the Cord Mill cemetery hosted the interment after funeral services led by Rev A J Smith. He leaves a wife two sons and four daughters.
Two Athens men joined the International League for Highway Improvement formed in St Augustine Florida. The group seeks a nine member commission to survey national trunk highways, coordinate state plans, and include an international conference with the Americas to form a North American system, funding one million dollars.
The Gulf States YWCA association convenes at First Baptist Church Athens with delegates from Georgia Florida Alabama and Mississippi. Events include scripture prayers addresses on The World-wide Organization and needs of the country girl along with city council sessions and student council discussions led by local and national officers. delegates include Dunbar Ogden Helen Barnes Mary George White and Miss Theodosia Wales among others.
Marcus Greer the five year old son of Officer M T Green died at his home on the evening of the 6th from diphtheria, a few weeks after his mother's death. The funeral is set for five this afternoon at Crawford. The family receives many condolences from friends here and at his old home.
The Ladies' Garden Club of Athens plans its biggest year with new members, a March bulk show, and a May sweet pea exhibit. A large attendance is expected at forthcoming events, drawing participants from Athens and nearby counties to national and regional exhibitions. The Davison-Nicholson Co. runs a shoe sale ad in today's issue inviting readers to save money.
The Athens area mourns the death of Rev. Cicero A Mitchell at his home after a long illness in old age. A Georgia University graduate, he served in the North Georgia Methodist conference and active itinerancy for many years. He leaves a wife and four children and the funeral is set for 4 PM at First Methodist with Rev M L Troutman and Rev W L Pierce officiating.
The service at the First Methodist church featured scripture and a prayer by Rev. M. E. Troutman. The body was interred at Oco nee cemetery.

Friends of the late Rev C A Mitchell and his family are invited to attend his funeral at the First Methodist church this afternoon at four o'clock. Interment will follow at Oconee cemetery.
Friends of Mr. M. T. Greet are asked to attend the funeral of his young son Marcus at Crawford this afternoon at five o'clock. The remains will be transported on the Georgia train from Athens at 4 15.
