Reports from the North Sea to the Swiss frontier describe a surprise assault by Teuton forces. American troops suffer heavy losses as they press a counter fire on German trench positions. Thirteen enemy aircraft are credited to be downed by British and Italian forces.
After a conference between Director General McAdoo and Fuel Administrator Garfield it was decided that heatless Mondays cannot be abandoned due to storms and cold waves crippling fuel movements. Officials noted the blizzard has reduced coal production and movement, and even if Mondays were lifted, drastic cutbacks would still occur because fuel is scarce. Reports tonight indicate many plants are already closing.
