Paris reports that American delegates to the peace conference reject the idea of acting as mandatory for Armenia and other former Turkish provinces. They argue Europe should handle regional welfare, noting the United States has no territorial aims and should await developments before taking on any obligations.
London reports the British cabinet debated the labor situation but remains opposed to intervention. Subway workers demanded a half hour luncheon break in the new eight hour day, later joined by about eight thousand hotel workers. A city committee asked the Lord Mayor to join the strike, while the merchant controller reportedly had to go fast in connection with the ice.
Prof. Charley Pickering, director of the observatory at Maes, died late today after a brief illness. He was one of the few astronomers known to be active in the field and was associated with Harvard.

City Clerk W L Wood reports from the Georgia State Board of Health that he has been appointed to compile vital statistics for Athens under a January effective law. Doctors must report deaths and births while undertakers and sextons report burials. he notes only one report has been received so far and urges all required parties to submit immediately.
Lieut Cadesman Pope of Athens received the French Croix de Guerre for bravery during World War I. He served with the 82nd then the Second Division, fought in the St Mihiel and Argonne battles under General Gouraud, and was later stationed near Jeendorff Germany. His mother Mrs J E Pope received the news.
Police search for a suspect described as an unnamed man who stole a vehicle and wrecked it against a pole near the outskirts. The thief left the car and asked a passing motorist for a ride in a second vehicle.
Police report two men are charged in the robbery of an elderly white man. Mr Jarrett states details remain uncertain as investigators pursue leads and identify suspects.
Grain dealers urged the House Agriculture Committee to have the government pay a guaranteed price of 2.26 for the 1919 wheat crop and sell to consumers at the market price, about 1.26. They warned the plan would cost roughly one billion, but favored it over continuing government price maintenance. Several alternatives were discussed, including pre war price bases and federal controls to prevent manipulation. The hearing reviewed a bill by A W Glasgow for the food administration and Agriculture Department, amid opposition to ongoing grain operations.
About nine thousand textile workers at Columbus plants walked out after an eight hour shift causing plant closures. They will report at 7 o clock tomorrow to demand pay for a fifty four hour week and threaten further strike action if unmet.
Dec 14 report from Vladivostok states Bishop Hermagen of Tobolsk was tortured and killed by Bolsheviki after defying Soviet authority. He was seized in Ekaterinburg, paraded back toward Tobolsk, and, amid clashes with Red Guards and Czech Slovak contingents, was thrown into a river after being tied to a rock.
A funeral service was held December 14 aboard the United States cruiser Brooklyn in Yokohama harbor for ten firemen who died from burns after an explosion while coaling on December 9. The service was led by Bishop Harris and Rev Strong with Admiral Rogers in attendance. The American Ambassador to Japan also attended.
In Jefferson Georgia on February 3 a large Jackson County farmer meeting passed resolutions to hold cotton indefinitely for fair prices and to cut acreage by thirty five percent or more if needed. The gathering, chaired by Mr. L. F. W. and addressed by several speakers, formed a permanent organization to push the movement and secure cooperation for production restraints.
Representatives of the Interallied Food Relief Commission led by Hugh Gibson Captain T C Ferguson and others returned to Paris to report after weeks in Poland Austria Hungary Czecho Slovakia Jugoslavia and Serbia. The group says fuel shortages threaten large scale food relief in Czecho Slovakia Austria and Hungary.

Hollis Landers faces murder count for killing Sheriff Cliff Barber during a failed arrest and auto theft warrant. Landers remains jailed in Clarke County awaiting travers jur y attendance. trial set for Thursday.
Miss Lila McIntyre a well known Athens figure died Sunday at 2 40 PM at 297 Lawton She had returned from China where she served as the first medical nurse with the Tabernacle Baptist Church in 1909 She graduated from the Tabernacle infirmary now Georgia Baptist Hospital Her many friends in Athens mourn her passing and recall her union work with city missionary societies she led in earlier years.

Washington Feb 3 After months of deliberation the house and senate conferees reached final agreement on the oil leasing bill. The measure would open more than fifty million acres of government owned oil gas coal phosphate and sodium lands in western states and Alaska to development under the leasing system with royalties.
Atlanta February 3 Senator Grantland of Griffin Georgia prominent cotton mill owner and state senator died at a hospital after an attack of acute illness He was 71 years old a Confederate veteran and longtime member of the legislature
Police report five arrests after a Friday incident led by Detective C E Iwo. Ray Sanders and Dewey Sharpe, two young white men, were fined ten dollars for lowering a guest lamp. Bill Huff paid ten dollars for reckless driving.
The regular monthly meeting of the Police and Fire Commission is set for this evening at eight o'clock in the city hall. Members H J Rowe Hugh H Gordoy and C A Talmadge will attend, with a Civic Service Commission committee to discuss matters under their jurisdiction.
Amid upheaval in Siberia the Government Tegraph Agency at Omsk says a cabinet panel found a need for an agency to govern Siberia and called a conference in Tomsk on January 16. Forty thousand rubles are allotted for the meeting.
A five year old child of Mr and Mrs H O Freeman died at the family home near Wickerville this afternoon. The funeral arrangements were to take place this afternoon at 4 o clock.
