World Wide Week of Prayer to be Observed by Y M C A
The world wide week of prayer will be observed in Athens from Sunday January 1 1911 through January 8 with most Athens churches uniting for a common effort. The First Methodist church auditorium is provided as a meeting place and Robert V Miller of Hendersonville NC will lead. Rev Dr R A Torrey has used him for major Bible conferences.

Fire threatens Athenaeum Cafe block in morning blaze
Early yesterday at about 5 o'clock a pile of stove wood behind the Athenaeum cafe on Clayton street between Lumpkin and College avenue caught fire. The manager alerted firefighters who pried open a door and saved the building and likely the entire block with only slight damage.

City Schools Close For Christmas Break After Record Attendance
Public schools finished the term with extra exercises as students head home for the holidays. Attendance rose to the highest level since the system began, and the spring term will start Monday January 9.

Yankees to Train in Athens Next Spring
Reports say the New York Americans will train in Athens next spring. The Highlanders trained here last spring with Athens streetcar officials preparing a park on Chase street and Boulevard. Manager Geo Stallings arranged the contract with the Athens Railway and Electric Company for several years though Hal Chase later succeeded him. Frank Anderson led the Red and Black to a string of wins as Stallings moved to Buffalo after the season. Athens hopes Buffalo may also train here. many old stars signed for 1911 and locals look forward to welcoming the Yankees back in March.

One Mule Earned $1133 This Year for Ashland Farmer
A farmer named Mr W B Vickery of Ashland reported earnings of 1133 dollars with a single mule after selling nine bales of cotton for 612 dollars and income from cotton seed oats fodder and commissions. He lives on the old Tucker place near Nalls Creek above the mill. Neighbors doubted his land would yield but the results prove otherwise.
