A loyal public servant, he consistently aided friends and neighbors, earning deep respect.
The community mourns W. Weir a Winona County farmer and Confederate veteran who died after a long bout of illness. Born March 10, he served two years as a private under General William J. Hartee and remained devoted to Southern principles. Surrounded by family and friends in his final days he passed into the undiscovered country. Sheriff Wier is mourned by wife and six children as City Court adjourns in his honor. The funeral at the Presbyterian church will be led by Rev. E L Hill with assistance from Rev. Troy Beatty.
