Senator Ong Scores Roosevelt Era Critique in Senate Speech
Senator Jeff Davis of Arkansas delivered his maiden speech in the sixtieth congress arguing to destroy trusts and jail Rockefeller. He attacked Wall Street speculators, mocked President Roosevelt’s $110,000 salary, and warned that without drastic action the trusts would overpower government while warning of knee breeches and powdered wigs for future statesmen. He urged severest penalties, charter revocation, and full remedy, describing the trust cancer as needing the surgeon’s knife. He pressed congress to act to destroy the trusts and protect the public.
