Senate committee cuts university and military appropriations

Another effort in the Senate appropriations committee sought to cut the State University appropriation from 22,500 to 0. Senator Tysinger moved the measure, but the committee recorded it. The South Georgia College at Thom built as a branch of the university is noted. Military funding was reduced from 20,000 to 10,000.

Dot contest closes soon with cash prizes offered

The Banner announces the dot contest will close next Monday at midnight. Hundreds have sent in answers with wide variation. The final dot chart appears Saturday, and local judges will review entries early next week to award prizes including a $25 first prize.

George P. Erwin Dies in Atlanta

George P. Erwin, longtime state executive department secretary under Governor Terrell and former messenger clerk of the state senate, died in Atlanta Sunday night at 9 from a hemorrhage of the lungs after a brief illness. He was en route to meet his wife when taken ill and was a nephew of Judge Alex S. Erwin. His death brings sorrow to friends across the state.
