Arrest of boy for stealing corn under local warrant

Yesterday morning El Brown a small boy was arrested for stealing corn from Mr. T. W. Powell's field in this city. Powell swore out the warrant. Judge Foster will hear the case. The boy had corn in his possession and says a white man gave it to him. He will be allowed to name the white man or face punishment in the Rang. Space 19 Selling at Fair Grounds

A contract with a New York firm for space in the agricultural hall at the fair grounds was made by telegram yesterday with a deposit mailed today. Atlanta and Macon firms have also contracted, and the 90 by 200 foot hall may be insufficient for all displays. Hood's Sarsaparilla is advertised as a health tonic.

A crowd gathered as Henry Harris of Oconee County dropped a pistol on the curb near Turner and Hodgson's store. The weapon fired on impact but no one was hit as the bullet escaped harmlessly into the air.

Vagrants Arrested Under Calvin Law in Athens

Police continue enforcing the Calvin vagrancy statute, arresting only when evidence supports conviction. Yesterday two women Annie Taliaferro and Della Shepard were jailed on vagrancy charges and to be tried before Judge Foater. Officers say enforcement is curbing idleness and many local men are taking work, with expected quick removal of vagrants from the city.

Horses Fill Fair Grounds As Opening Day Near

Several race horses arrived yesterday and more are expected. The stables at the fair grounds fill quickly as horses are worked on the track each morning and afternoon. Spectators flock daily to watch workouts, with indications that about 100 horses will be present on opening day.
