Paris reports Viviani's cabinet resigns and a new ministry formed within an hour. The move follows the crisis as France seeks to widen government scope with a lineup including ex-premiers and senior officials.
A proposed city charter eliminates ward lines abolishes mayor and aldermen positions and creates five city managers with a two year to four year term plan. It includes a civil service board, a city superintendent with at least 3500 salary, a 1 percent tax cap with school levy allowed up to 0.5 percent, and a process for charter amendments by majority vote. Citizens are urged to read the charter published by The Banner and to register by the 31st to vote in the September 15 election.

Governor John M. Slaton says Georgia’s treasury is healthier than in years and school teachers will be paid more promptly due to the tax equalization act and rate cut. He notes 1914 taxable values rose by about 83 million, with 65 percent from untaxed property, justifying gradual debt discharge to teachers and sustained school funding.

In Columbia on August 26 United States Senator E D Smith won renomination by a margin estimated between 18 000 and 20 000 over three opponents. Eleven gubernatorial candidates included Manning Cooper and Richards close together with a second primary likely September 8. Smith held about 67 600 votes while Manning Cooper and Richards each hovered around 23 000 with small margins between them.

Clarke County delegates to the 20th State Senatorial District Convention are named by Chairman Howell Erwin for the August 27, 1914 meeting in Athens Georgia. Delegates include Robert Toombs DuBose G A Booth Joe L Deadwyler George H Thornton D G Anderson and Dr M Fullilove. The convention nominates Dr A J S Stovall of Elberton as Democratic choice for the Thirtieth district senate.
In New York on August 26 receivers were appointed for the 29 million dollar corporation International Steam Pump. The equity suit by bond holders stockholders and a creditor ended in the grant of receivership which the company joined. Receivers are authorized to continue the business as cash shortages caused the trouble.
Council member Dr L N Betts told the Banner he bore responsibility for the vote about Dr Wed W Brown's status as city bacteriologist after Brown opened a private practice. Dr S S Smith testified that a competent bacteriologist could be hired for 1500 dollars who would devote full time to city work.
