Delightful picnic and social notes in Athens week
A long list of society events fills the week with parties and gatherings in Athens. Guests Miss Loulvye Deadwyler and Thelma Wilhite of Elberton attend a Beech Haven picnic hosted by Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Wilhite, plus a Delighful Prom and various receptions. Wedded couples Miss Curtice Carter and John G. Holton wed at Milledge Avenue, followed by a motor trip through the Carolinas. Several church and society group meetings, student movements, and travels of locals complete the society column, with profiles of hosting and chaperone roles throughout.

Weather belts shift north intensifying summer heat
A northern shift of high and low pressure belts is blamed for unusually hot and dry conditions across the Northern Hemisphere. The result includes hotter summers in Europe and Canada, drier London water supplies, and widespread heat driven by persistent high pressures while the south bears the weather. Scientists seek data from the southern hemisphere to confirm causes and patterns.
