The Athens city council set the charter election for September 15, the earliest feasible date under law after the governor signed the bill. Council members debated an alternative 23 date but Wright’s motion prevailed. The Banner urged residents to study the charter details before voting.
Speaker Clark issued warrants for forty three house members before a quorum formed to continue war claim bill debates. Deputies were rounded up, with ten traced to the American league baseball park despite rain cancelling yesterday’s game. Mrs S J V Johnson aged 90 died at her Winterville home this afternoon after weeks of illness. wife of the late Capt R P Johnson and daughter of Judge T W Hutchenson she lived nearly a century in Winterville and was a devoted Methodist. Survived by nephews and nieces including Rev Luke G Johnson R J Johnson L F Johnson Mrs T H Dozier S O Hutchenson and Bell Hutchenson. Funeral Sunday 10 am at home with burial in family cemetery.

The cotton crop began to move as the first bales of the season were received yesterday morning at D. F. Miller & Co. warehouse. Two bales arrived from a local farm, indicating excellent quality and signaling the start of the season.

Carey M. Teague of Macon Georgia wed Ann Braither of Athens in St. Louis on August 21 in a ceremony reported by The Banner. The marriage linked two southern communities and occurred in the St. Louis ceremony setting.
The Woodmen of the World urge members to attend a 7:30 Sunday meeting at the hall to board the early train to Columbus for camp.
