Falsity of Hoke Smiths charge proven in Georgia records
An open letter from Smithonia Georgia dated August 14 1906 claims Hoke Smith falsely charged that Farmer Jim was fined 2500 dollars after convict cruelty trials. It cites Executive Office records and letters from Captains English James Hopkins and others showing no convict under Jim was tried or fined and that the state case related to other companies.
