Washington reports an American mission to Russia faces near unanimous disapproval of sending U S troops east. Only Charles Russell favored St Elihu Root. Opponents say Russia with ten million armed men does not need a few thousand foreign soldiers amid anti American propaganda funded by German money.
The Georgia senate approved the primary election bill known as the Neill bill. It sets the second Wednesday in September as the primary date for U S senators governors state officers and judges. County unit votes assign two votes per county representative and determine nominations via majority, county unit leads. If no majority, a second primary in October follows with tied counties split or decided by total state votes. Exceptions apply to governor and U S Senate where county unit majority governs nominations. The bill excludes Congress members judges and several officials from this scope.
The body of Alice Bradshaw, a little crippled girl, was found July 5 near a swamp a mile from her Lindon home. E. A. Gray found the body while rowing. Miss Etta Hicks and Mrs. Alvin Kenniston, housekeeper for John Bradshaw, are said to have confessed to the murder and are detained.

Special to the Banner Washington D C Aug 9 The United States Geological Survey reports railroads used 136000000 tons of bituminous coal or over a quarter of total mine output to move freight and passengers in 1916 up 14000000 tons from 1915 or 11.5 percent The combined coal use by railroads was 142735000 tons with regional increases in the south eastern and western districts and a 16 percent rise in the west.
Mrs. Elizabeth Moon age seventy seven died yesterday at her Farmington home in Oconee County. Funeral service will be at Farmington Methodist Church at 10 this morning with Rev. M. Jordan officiating. She leaves four sons including EB. Moon, and four daughters, and was a longtime member of the Methodist Church. flowers may be sent in care of Bernstein Brothers by Athens friends.

St Louis August 9 Miss Alvina Perstrup stated she telephoned Jorgan Lambert’s apartment and asked the maid if he was ill. A neuropath line inquest found that Lambert committed suicide after recent pressures.
Washington reports the August crop summary from the Bureau of Crop Estimates via the Weather Bureau. It lists state and national forecasts for corn wheat oats potatoes hay apples cotton and prices including August 1 averages and prior year figures.
United States Wheat 228.9 and 107.1 cents per bushel. Corn 196.6 and 79.4. Oats 73.7 and 40.1. Potatoes 170.8 and 95.4. Hay 13.42 and 10.68 per ton. Cotton 24.3 and 12.6 per pound. Eggs 29.8 and 20.7 cents per dozen.
Mrs Eliza Marshall aged eighty four died at her daughter Mrs J T Saxons home from infirmities of age. Funeral conducted by Rev B L Shellutt at 10 this morning at Elder cemetery burial follows. Survived by five sons three daughters three brothers and four sisters. Beloved member of the Christian church for over sixty years in this section of the state.
Rev J A Bell pastor of West End Baptist Church left yesterday for Cloud s Creek Church in Wilkes County to conduct a Three Days Annual Meeting for the congregation there. Rev J B Brookshire of Woodville will be in Athens for the weekend and will preach for Bell at West End Church on Sunday morning and evening.
Little Jack DeSaulles, four, visited his mother Bianca DeSaulles in her Nassau county jail room in Mineola New York. He spent about an hour with her and she wept at parting. Jail staff said the visit would be repeated.
Mr W J Russell of Ath ens and Washington DC is home for a few days. He holds a fine position in the treasury department and is a charter member of the Treasury Guards. He has drilled regularly since joining.
