Miss Daisy Cheney Dead at Rome
Miss Daisy Cheney daughter of Mr and Mrs A D Cheney of Rome died yesterday morning at age seventeen after an appendicitis operation. She studied at the State Normal School here until two weeks ago and lived with her grandfather A G Elder in Athens. Funeral and burial in Rome today. Relatives Mr A G Elder and Miss Laura Elder traveled to Rome for the funeral and to comfort grieving parents.

This Negro Was a Bachelor For One Hundred and Eight Years
Nanse Hancock of Madison county died at his home yesterday, reportedly aged 108. He never married and had previously owned a small farm and house eight miles from Athena, living near Hoketown where he will be buried. Local witnesses vouched for his claimed age. He attributed longevity to simply “living right.”
