Athens marked Memorial Day with post office and banks closed. The Cobb Delaney camp of Confederate Veterans met at the city hall then dined at the Y M C A for seventy veterans and guests. The Ladies Memorial Association led a ceremony at the chapel with music, flowers, and tributes to veterans including Judge Andrew Cobb honoring William Gaston Delaney.

Ben Sanford pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the murder of Seymour Moore near the waterworks after a dispute over whiskey price. In the superior court he was sentenced to ten years. Former Athens Man Dies in Atlanta at 78
Mr. J. K. Kirkpatrick, seventy eight, died Sunday at a private sanitarium. He lived at 159 Whitehall Street Atlanta and is survived by his wife a daughter Miss Myrtis Kirkpatrick and two sons R L and N H Kirkpatrick. The body was taken to Pool's chapel. Kirkpatrick formerly lived in Athens and his son once worked at the Banner office.

Local Official Treated After Mercury Poisoning Mistake
Albert Sidney Johnson longtime Stern & Co. employee and editor of the Oconee Enterprise swallowed fifteen grains of bi chloride of mercury by mistake on Sunday night. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors worked to remove the poison, and he was resting well with a chance to recover. Johnson is brother of L. F. Johnson, treasurer of Oconee county.
