Clarke County residents oversubscribed the Victory Loan by 65 850 on the first day of campaigning. Athens and rural districts bought 775 900 worth of notes against a 710 050 goal. Banks remain open for two and a half weeks through May 10th for further purchases.
Five more counties including Clarke county Georgia and Forrest county Mississippi reported subscriptions to the victory loan bringing the total to fifteen in the Atlanta district. The campaign began in New Orleans with daily subscriptions of four thousand five hundred dollars.
London newspapers publish leading articles on President Wilsons appeal regarding the Italian situation at the Paris conference and Premier Orlando’s withdrawal. The Manchester Guardian endorses Wilsons stance noting Italys broader claims beyond the London treaty on Fiume Trentino and other territories. the Evening Standard doubts the arguments.
London April 24 prominent British labor leaders telegrammed President Wilson praising his declaration for peace based on the fourteen points. They expressed confidence Italian workers would join international labor in supporting him.
