Washington. Senator Caraway of Arkansas urged recognition to introduce a resolution accusing President Coolidge of favoring Republicans. He protested being repeatedly passed over and demanded his rights and the firing of family members over such conduct. The vice president said recognition would occur and Caraway planned a resolution for a Harding-era soldier count, but Republicans objected and the matter stalled.
In New York Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, speaking to reporters on his American lecture tour, asserts that spirit marriages occur on a higher plane than earthly unions and that they are the mating of affinities which always continue happily, while noting no births among spirit marriages.
Three cases formed the docket for Judge Thornton's 6 30 police court matinee Monday afternoon. All charged with disorderly conduct and fines ranged from five to fifteen dollars. John Henry Thursty and Johnnie White, two Black youths, were fined 5 75 for window breaking. Andrew Harris paid 15 75 for disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. Arthur Loden was fined 10 75 for a similar offense.
Twenty defendants were named in federal indictments by the grand jury in a Monday session. The cases cover violations of federal criminal law, with warrants issued for several individuals. The court, presided by Judge Samuel H. Sid Jones, adjourned early after outlining the proceedings and noting that names would be released after arrests are made. The grand jury roster followed.

The Georgia Rebecca Association president attended and praised the district's work.

Dr. Joseph Lustrat head of the University of Georgia Romance Languages faculty announced his election as an officer of the L Académie Française. The honor reflects merit in literature and science and brings prestige to the university as well. Lustrat, a French native, has lived in the United States for many years and authored several French texts used internationally. He participated actively in war relief efforts. BALLOON RACE. The American National Balloon Race will start from Milwaukee on May 31, per Aero Club of America.
Hon Jas F Colbert aged 83 a longtime legislator and prominent planter in the region was buried in Colbert Cemetery Monday at eleven after services at Colbert Methodist Church. He died Saturday night at 8 30 following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife two daughters a granddaughter and several younger grandchildren. Pallbearers were Henry Hart J L Williams Ramsey Burton Carl Porterfield Dr G Loden W L Hardeman Albert Hitchcock and George Eppes honorary pallbearers included Robert Hardeman Dave Eberhardt and others.
The annual spring meeting of the Presbytery of Athens opens tonight with an opening service at the Commerce Presbyterian Church. Rev. Me Chumley will preach the sermon before Presbytery is called to order by the retiring moderator. Officers for the next term will be elected and adjournment is expected by Wednesday night, April 12. All nearby churches are invited to attend, and the Commerce church ladies plan a dinner on the grounds for visitors.

A five member committee was named to elect officers, with Rev Walter Anthony and Judge Blanton Fortson backing the effort. Area officials welcomed the plan to bolster moral order and juror standards. The Athens group may affiliate with the state league already in existence.
