Georgia and Michigan played 2 to 2 through eleven innings in an intense east clash. Michigan halted the twelfth inning, citing travel needs, amid protests, while Georgia planned rematches with Sewanee and Tulane in upcoming games.
The Georgia State Optical Association holds its annual session in Athens with three sessions today including to the morning business hour and afternoon technical papers and discussions followed by a night program. About a hundred members are expected, with a luncheon at the State College of Agriculture and a city tour. Legislation to guard the public against incompetent eye advisers is on the agenda.
City marshal Conway works on personal property tax returns, pursuing increases where stock notes and accounts seem undervalued. He will notify several cases, aiming to explain or raise low figures. Also notes Major John E. Talmadge recovering from illness and visiting downtown, with strong local support.
Yesterday and last night two revival services drew strong crowds at Young Harris Memorial church. Rev. Mr. Collins of Wesleyan Memorial Atlanta led sermons on the surrendered life with Balaam and Abraham cited as contrasts. Last night’s message urged personal accountability to God as attendees prayed at the altars. Services continue today at 10 30 a m and 8 p m with a brief prayer session before the 8 o clock song service.

City officials and local newspaper backers urge the Woodmen of the World to stage the biennial head camp in Athens. The Athens chamber and Mr. Callaway promote the effort as Thomasville envoy delegation hopes to confirm Athens as host, with a message expected tonight.
Gordon H Gordon elected alderman of the Fourth ward without opposition after yesterday’s court house vote. He will take the oath and seat in the city council Thursday evening, with praise for his anticipated service to the city.
The Jeffersonian Law Debating Society at the University of Georgia held its regular weekly meeting on April 8 1913. Susie Spikes sues Jeff Brown for slander over marriage contract disruption, with a verdict of 4000 dollars for the plaintiff after arguments led by local and Athens bar members. The event draws student interest and extra judge participation as mock trials continue weekly. Arnold and Abney advertise fresh produce and chips.
The Royal Arcanum plans its state convention in Dublin next week with many from the area attending. Judge H. S. West, vice regent, is likely to become regent this year, while Chief G. W. McDorman of the fire department serves on the finance committee. Delegates will be appointed this week, and Athens area interest in state officers is expected to draw a large delegation.
Miss Martha E. Kenney, about 47, died yesterday at her Hill Street home after a prolonged rheumatic illness and complications. Funeral today at 4 PM from First Methodist with service by the pastor. Burial in Ocohee cemetery. Pallbearers named D F Miller, E C Paine, B E J Smith, T H Linton, T S Mell, A H Davison. Survived by two sisters Lizzie Kenney and J W Kenney, two sisters Mrs W S Christie of Balsam NC and Mrs Oscar Norris of Kansas City, and two brothers Mrs K Kenney of Balsam and Hy Kenney of Macon. Daughter of the late Rev I M Kenney, a noted local Methodist minister who helped establish the Winterville church. She remained loyal to her faith.
Rev C C Jarrell pastor of First Methodist, recently at Rome, has accepted invitation to deliver the commencement sermon at the Martha Berry School near Rome noted for its Union fame.
At the convention of the American Travelers' Protective Association strong resolutions praised the State College of Agriculture here for its work and extension programs. The traveling men pledge cooperation and support for the college's efforts.
Since the first of the year there has been one case of insanity a month recorded in the ordinary's court looks. For several years the average for the twelve months has been one and a half lunatics a month from fifteen to twenty each year. The record is off so far this year. There have been several near cases, however, which did not come to a head.
The Athens Women’s Club asks local men to support a Woman’s Edition of The Atlanta Constitution and a 100 page paper aimed at funding mountain school education and other philanthropic work. They urge businessmen to advertise Athens institutions and goods, promising potential returns and urging participation to aid humanity. M. A. Lipscomb signs.
The United States Bureau of Education issued a bulletin on rural education lauding the Georgia State Normal School at Athens. It highlights the Georgia Club as its standout feature, a student and faculty group studying Georgia county by county, comparing gains since 1900 and preparing teachers for rural work.
Rev R V Miller will spend several days in Athens this coming fall as part of the Tabernacle Bible Conference. He previously preached here three years ago, leaving a strong impression with his earnestness, consecration, and deep scriptural knowledge.
