Public officials from all counties in the Eighth district will gather in Athens on April 26 to discuss a proposed constitutional amendment creating a $75,000,000 road bond issue. J M Hodgson announced the meeting at the request of Hugh H White. Georgia Good Roads Association will explain the bond plan and campaigning steps. A dinner and program will be arranged, aiming to unite Northeast Georgia behind the measure.

CHICAGO Coal operators in the central competitive area used to meet with miners to negotiate wages before the coal strike began and there is apparently no reason to believe they have changed their minds says Dr F F C Honnold secretary of the Illinois Coal Operators Association when informed that chairman Nolan of the House Labor committee telegraphed the operators. President Lewis of the United Mine Workers had expressed willingness to meet the representative body of the central fleet.
The Athens Chamber of Commerce will meet Wednesday afternoon at 6 o clock in their room at the Securities building to discuss freight rate problems affecting Athens selling territory. They anticipate possible Railway Commission action and a rate change, and seek an investigation and report on Athens position and the impact of any changes on local merchants.
New York report says Mrs. David Rosen, age unknown, was killed Tuesday when a gas explosion occurred as she attempted to light a stove at home. Police suspect accidental cause due to inexperience with cooking. The fire was extinguished. the body was found beside her.
