A Holden alfalfa and corn campaign train will stop in Athena on Wednesday October 1 with Professor P G Holden as chief lecturer. The Oregon Washington Railroad and Navigation company operates the special train to aid farmers dairymen and stockmen in land questions.
Agricultural experts from Oregon Washington and Idaho travel by train to Athena arriving 11 50 p m October 1 for a three hour stop. They will distribute practical advice to farmers at fields schools and community centers while stressing alfalfa and corn production to meet rising meat demand.
A Salem circular from Superintendent J A Churchill urges districts to compare book prices with other states and reclaim overcharges. It notes Palmer Writing Lessons primary grade at 20 cents vs 15 in other states and Palmer Method of Business Writing at 25 cents vs 16 elsewhere. Publishers agree to adjust. notify loan dealers of the credit.
Mrs. Elizabeth Dell wife of Dr. Leonard Dell died Monday after a five week struggle with typhoid fever. She was born April 16 1846 in Sullivan County Missouri and moved to Athena with her husband in 1887. Survived by her husband and two sons York and Henry. Burial followed Tuesday at two o clock in the Christian church with A M Meldrum officiating. She was a member of the Christian church and active in Women of Woodcraft and Ladies of the Maccabees.
The Bank of Montreal sued Ivan O Harra for coal mining stock notes in Pendleton. Judge Phelps granted a non suit to the plaintiff on a technical point, allowing possible future suits. Attorneys for both sides are listed and more suits may follow. Frank Richmond sold part of his ranch near Helix to Carl Wengert. The Heiis Advocate notes wheat land in Umatilla County. School patrons are invited to visit the school.
